Here are 5 smart ways to building self-confidence from the smartest people of history. You will learn how to gain self-confidence with power and inner strength.

Take action and accomplish it

“The future depends on what you do today.” Gandhi

The most vital part in creating self-confidence is by taking action today, not tomorrow.  Start working on a certain task; continue with it until finished.  What makes a person really worse is when he does nothing in life. While it’s not easy doing something in the beginning, you can find ways to simplify things.

“Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence.  Inaction is not only the result, but the cause of fear.” Norman Vincent Peal.

Always be prepared

“Preparation gives birth to self-confidence.” Denise Harman

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” Colin Powell

Being ready by learning something is helpful in building confidence and success.  For instance, rehearsing your speech beforehand is good in knowing your piece by heart.  But knowing a little about your speech will get you lost while delivering it.  It’s certain, there’s a big difference in the level of confidence if you have rehearsed enough. Being prepared is the key to feeling more comfortable and confident in facing the huge audience.

Face the things you’re afraid of.

“Your fear is 100% dependent on you for survival.” Dr. Steve Maraboli

“The way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear.”  William Jenning Bryan

True confidence doesn’t come from not having fear. It comes from trusting yourself to act in spite of your fear. When you face fear and overcome it, you obtain courage, will-power and confidence.   Good affirmations can help give positive results.  So if you can’t speak positively to yourself, you lose self-confidence in a more serious way.

Facing fears make you feel curious.  Being curious is being filled with zeal and expectations.  Curiosity makes you feel more excited about learning new things—instead of focusing on fear.

Accept the reality that fear is mostly based on unhealthy interpretations.  Usually, the negative thing people see is just a bad thing which resulted from a single experience.  Be careful of your thoughts and don’t believe all things your mind tells you.

Overcome negative thoughts

“Whenever a negative thought concerning your personal power comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.” Norman Vincent Peale

Avoid being stuck with a negative spiral.  One way of doing it is to surround yourself with positive people.  Talk to a friend who’s able to help you by giving you constructive but loving advice.  Always hang out with individuals who won’t feed your negative thoughts but will put things into perspective.

Avoid being a perfectionist

“Perfectionism doesn’t make you feel perfect. It makes you feel inadequate.” Maria Shriver

“It’s a bit of a headache being a perfectionist. You’re never satisfied.” Cherie Lunghi

Come to think it:  if you do wrong or fail, it doesn’t really take your life.  Self-confidence doesn’t happen because you always do right, but by not being afraid to commit wrong.   To overcome lack of confidence, it’s important to accept the things beyond your control.

Accept the reality that all of us are prone to commit mistakes.  Neither being wrong nor being a failure can make one unsuccessful.   Therefore, the best thing to do with failure is use it as a stepping stone to gain more confidence.

Building self-confidence is not a magical trick.  It takes time, effort and focus to really build it.  Self-confidence is the end result of a well-developed behavior.  Don’t worry if others may look as if it’s natural to them.  In the long run, you too can develop self-confidence and enjoy its many benefits.
